Services
Educational support can take many forms, and every step will be tailored to your child's personal needs.

Irrespective of the end goal, I always begin with a period of exploration and benchmarking, so that we can form a view of what support is required that is independent of other involved parties, and so a true reflection of your child's needs. Together, we will then build a plan which is tailored to your child's starting point, and that reflects the progress they need to make.

School Entrance
I have written the entrance papers now for three leading independent schools, as well as overseeing the English admissions processes in two, both as lead interviewer and as the person ultimately deciding who makes the cut. I have an unrivalled insight into what is required for a successful application. For students considering entry at 11+, 13+, and sixth form, I am able to provide the support they need.
School Replacement
Available for ages 11-20, whether building towards an examination or not, my extensive experience of different courses and curricula means that I can be trusted to look after your child's entire English education, building a bespoke course from beginning to end. I will ensure that they not only flourish academically but also develop a lifelong love of literature.
Enrichment
With a focus on mastery of the subject and love of literature, rather than teaching to a test, I work with students of all ages to push them far beyond the constraints of what they would otherwise experience in school - this approach provides an excellent foundation from which to approach exam years with confidence, or indeed is great for those considering going on to study humanities subjects at university.
Exam Preparation
Having delivered world leading results across almost every available secondary exam course (at both 6th Form and GCSE), both as a teacher and as a Head of English, I understand exactly what is required in order to succeed and have a strong track record of helping students (at all ability levels) to make exceptional progress.
Intervention Courses
For students approaching big milestone assessments, or even those who just feel they are struggling with the subject, I am able to offer intensive intervention courses. Either spread across a number of weekends or delivered across a week of the school holidays, I diagnose skill and knowledge gaps and then build a course focussed on rapidly addressing the student's needs. Available for individuals as well as groups (who are able then to share the cost), I have run these courses virtually, in person, and to fit into families' planned vacations.
Approaches
Supplementary Tuition
Intended for bright students who are not being sufficiently challenged, a supplementary approach will move your child beyond what is offered in school, whilst focussing on the same topics or texts, giving them an intellectually stimulating experience that is both broad and deep.

Exploratory Enrichment
For a bright child that loves English, what they are covering in school is often not enough to keep that fire burning bright. Designed in response to your child's enthusiasms and literary interests, I will build a completely bespoke course intended to enrich their experience of English Literature. A course like this is more of a gift than it is an intervention!
Complimentary Tuition
Tutoring in parallel with your child's day-to-day teacher, a complimentary course is designed to enhance your child's schoolwork. They will securely grasp the skills and topics being taught; I will also ensure that gaps left by their teacher are identified and addressed so that your child can move through their school years with confidence.
Compensatory Tuition
Where we identify that your child's English teacher isn't up to scratch, I will deliver a course that takes greater ownership of your child's progress, making sure that the key skills required at their level of education are taught well - a compensatory course ensures that your child will succeed in spite of the teaching otherwise on offer.
